I was honored to do the art for the Bieber Jerboa album based off of their song called “Aah Real Monsters” (Hear this track and others here.) As much as I listen to music when creating art, I had never created an actual piece for a specific kind of music, so it became an interesting experience translating the abstract notion of sound into a descriptive drawing. When I heard the track, I envisioned a mechanical entity made up of complex systems of gears, similar to that of a car, and a gray obscured figure who is caged behind bars. This figure seemed to communicate his story to me through waves of electronic muzzle sounds while the gears hybridize, shift, and break. When I drew the actual art, my intuition prevailed over my vision, as I tried to keep with the framework of the song.
