Slaughterhouse Visit, a set on Flickr.

Here I go, this is a bit random, but I thought to vent a bit about my experiences from my slaughterhouse visit the other day. Yesterday, I went to a local Colorado slaughterhouse to help collect some ‘materials’ for an art project, but the day quickly turned sour when I witnessed a sheep slaughter. Such brutality and graphic horror makes one think about the sadistic human condition and our omnivorous lifestyles choices. I mean do butchers have any empathy? how can they so easily play god, take away a life, and still sleep at night. So much physical labor actually go into one butchering/skinning session, and it makes you wonder if all that is really worth the $700-per-cow-salary. But who am I to judge, since Im just as guilty for eating the packaged goods.

A little before I left, I saw a helpless sheep being dragged inside and all I could do was witness his death. The experience made me want to change my eating habits, but it takes a lot more mental prep to truly dedicate to such a lifestyle. For now, the horrible odor of the burnt cow carcasses has traumatized me from eating meat for a while…
