Floating in Japan

Natsumi Hayashi is a photographer who lives in Tokyo with her two cats. She is known mainly for her “Flying in Air Diary” of levitating self portraits, which seem to question the laws of gravity. When I first came across her work, I could not stop myself from looking. Her strange floating poses seem awkwardly funny and fully staged, but she recalls her jumps are solely from intuition, with the challenge of capturing the action using a camera shutter speed of only 1/500 second or faster.
