Enter the whimsical world of Angela “Gala” Garrels, an illustrator and installation artist from Seattle by way of Michigan, Indiana and Buffalo, NY. I am in total admiration of her very labor intensive, sort of hairy, sort of cloudy abstract drawings which contain a nice balance between creativity and technical mastery. Her creatures border a mix between Dr.Seuss and Where the Wild Things Are, with interesting textures that sometimes reference recognizable forms, such as animals, body parts, and braids. Above all, her keen sense of color, space, and dimension truly render her unique!
