Amazing paper sculptures

I just came across Stephen Doyle, who unites words and images in unforgettable ways creating astonishing conceptual paper sculptures. I might just be doing a couple posts on his art.

Doyle studied painting, sculpture and design at The Cooper Union. His first paper sculpture was created from the idea of computer hypertexts which then evolved into books, triggering further exploration. Here is an excerpt from an interview he did with Felt & Wire:

Books are where ideas come from. The book is such a great form. Before doing these works, I was making concrete casts of books. What interested me was, if you take all the information out, does the form still have any power?

Somewhere along the line I started wondering, well, what does happen when you take the ideas out? So, I started taking out the binding and the pages and setting the words free. And I’ve been working from there.

He is a principle of a design firm based in New York and makes these sculptures as a side project. Check out his complete interview here.
