Alex McLeod constructs hyperrealistic 3D environments filled with crystalline mountains, fiery lakes, and rotund clouds, all rendered in a sickly sweet and gooey candy-colored palette. Recalling the wide-open vistas of Romantic landscape painting while at the same time staging otherworldly dystopias, McLeod’s CGI prints act as hybrid spaces that imply an almost infinite recombination of the past and present, the real and virtual.

Alex McLeod‘s digital landscapes are truly awe-inspiring, I can easily get lost in them and never come back. With early art influences from PC games like ‘Rama’, ‘Myst’, ‘Diablo’ and ’Warcraft’, McLeod’s tendency to make things glossy and reflective took shift. His magical dreamscapes reflect perfect almost alien-like dioramas of a somehow familiar environment, yet the photographs remain frozen, perhaps speaking to the greater stillness of our time against the rapidly growing age of technological advances.
