I recently went to see the world traveling immersive Van Gogh Exhibit at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, Colorado. It was quite the blockbuster digital art experience. I found it to be an informative, unique and creative way of experiencing Van Gogh’s life and art. The exhibition format was controversial in the way that it makes you realize the future possibilities of how art and artists can be displayed and viewed. Are immersive experiences more cost effective than the traditional exhibition format? perhaps something to consider in this changing cyborgian word. Immersive and interactive art experiences are becoming the next big thing in the art world.
The exhibit enamored all the senses through visual, auditory and olfactory elements. The whole experience was about 45 minutes divided into two auditoriums through computer assisted techniques (artworks, fades, pans, quotes) to surround the audience. Deeply emotional music accompanied the slides. The exhibit ended with a beautiful sunflower photo op mirror room.
