Tinged with absurd humor

I’m not sure exactly why, but I love Mathieu Lévesque‘s paintings. Appearing to be built carelessly with non-harmonious colors, his paintings represent an environment of a controlled chaos. Charged with a range of iconographies and styles, Lévesque reflects a dialogue between relatively colorful pictorial traditions such as the action painting , the shaped canvas, graffiti and bad painting. His works mix numerous techniques, intertwining randomness and forwardness with floating parcels, details, marks, words, lines, characters and stickers, spacious within their oddly soothing backgrounds.

  2. Controlled chaos– yes, I can identify with that completely! Except, perhaps, for the “controlled” part… : )
